How To Make A Simple Hall Table

A hall table is a great way to add style and functionality to your entryway. It can be used to store keys, mail, and other small items, and it can also serve as a place to display your favorite photos or artwork. Best of all, it's a relatively easy project to build yourself.

Materials:
  • 1x6 pine boards (8 feet long)
  • 1x3 pine boards (8 feet long)
  • 2x4 pine boards (8 feet long)
  • Wood glue
  • 1-1/4 inch screws
  • 2-1/2 inch screws
  • Sandpaper
  • Stain or paint (optional)
Tools:
  • Circular saw
  • Miter saw
  • Drill
  • Nail gun
  • Clamps
  • Sanding block
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
Instructions:

1. Cut the 1x6 pine boards to the following lengths:

  • 2 pieces at 30 inches
  • 2 pieces at 18 inches
  • 2 pieces at 12 inches

2. Cut the 1x3 pine boards to the following lengths:

  • 2 pieces at 30 inches
  • 2 pieces at 18 inches

3. Cut the 2x4 pine boards to the following lengths:

  • 2 pieces at 30 inches
  • 2 pieces at 16 inches

4. Assemble the frame of the hall table by attaching the 1x6 pine boards to the 2x4 pine boards with wood glue and 1-1/4 inch screws. Make sure the 1x6 pine boards are flush with the edges of the 2x4 pine boards.

5. Attach the 1x3 pine boards to the inside of the frame, flush with the top and bottom edges, using wood glue and 1-1/4 inch screws.

6. Sand the hall table smooth and apply stain or paint if desired.

7. Allow the stain or paint to dry completely, then attach the legs to the bottom of the frame using wood glue and 2-1/2 inch screws.

8. Your hall table is now complete! Enjoy!

Tips:
  • If you don't have a miter saw, you can use a circular saw to cut the angles on the legs. Just be sure to use a miter gauge to ensure that the cuts are accurate.
  • If you don't have a nail gun, you can use a hammer and nails to attach the boards together. Just be sure to countersink the nails so that they don't stick out.
  • You can customize the hall table to fit your own style by changing the size, shape, or finish.
